A tornado in London! I hope a tornado doesn't hit our little house. I'm pretty sure it hit right where my cousin, B, used to live in Kensal Rise. Bet she's glad she moved to York. Hope they don't still own the flat for investment.
Found dried beef, like Wing Heong makes it, in Chinatown yesterday. Hurray! My reward for having to walk from Selfridges to the gym for class because Regent Street had been closed down due to some emergency. That brought the whole of London to a standstill. Good thing the tube lines weren't flooded today.
All the trains going up North were cancelled too.
The London transport network is grinding to a halt.

Home
It rained heavily for 5 hours straight yesterday. Where does all the water come from? And where does it all go? It's a mystery.
Dad suddenly had a fixation for KFC so we all went off to have the Colonel's finger lickin' best. It's still beyond me why they don't do mashed potato in the UK KFCs.
Lunch yesterday was Ampang Yong Tow Foo. The place had mysteriously moved and no longer had a disused mining pool beside it. Mum says it never had a pool but I think we're just going to a different place from where we used to go. It's a funny thing the old memory - now neither of us are sure that we're remembering things quite right.
Then we went to KLCC. The approach was via a long underground tunnel that started miles away from the twin towers. It was very strange. We ended up in the deepest recesses of the KLCC carpark. Big blister bumped the car on the way out and is now mortified as the front bumper is a bit out of shape. I hate underground/multilevel carparks - I only ever scrape our car when I'm in one. They're too narrow by far.

Stormy Weather
We had a big storm last night. Heaps of forked lightning and protracted rain showers making all internet connection impossible. It was very impressive but not enough to distract me from the dull television viewing available.
The garden was fumigated for mosquitoes yesterday with some manure smelling stuff which meant we had to keep all the windows shut for a few hours. There were insects of all sorts beating themselves against the glass trying to get away from the fumes. In revenge, last night, the mosquitoes (who had apparently got away unscathed) descended en masse and attacked me mercilessly. So much for mosquito spraying then.
Dinner at Sam Yau was Fukien mien, Gong Fu chow mai fun, ham choi tau foo tong and sweet potato leaves. The cooking was not up to their usual standard. The soup was most odd - sour, but in the wrong way and the mai fun seemed to be mainly hor fun instead.
On the other hand, had an excellent curry mee for lunch at Sam Yau in its daytime incarnation. It had see ham, tau foo pok, squid, fish cake finely sliced and mint - all important in the quintessential curry mee. The curry stock was good too.

I don't know why I ever believe the weather report. Today the BBC said it would be 20 degrees. Perhaps they meant Fahrenheit, cos it sure wasn't Celsius. Foolishly, I came into work in a skirt and short sleeves and now am frozen into a sad and forlorn icicle. Ah well, just acclimatizing myself for later in the week in Helsinki.
Went to Buddha Jazz again at the weekend and had the frogs legs for starter. Fantastic! R, who came with me and is a semi-vegetarian and fussy about food, was almost tempted by them herself as they looked so good. They've started doing desserts also, but only of the sticky toffee banana, pineapple or apple variety. They also do glutinous rice balls with ginger sauce, but who can resist a good sticky toffee banana?

Ladurée has finally opened a branch in London! Hurrah! Went along to Harrods and partook of the macaroons. They really are the best I've ever had. The ones at Yauatcha and Sketch aren't a patch on theirs. Apparently the ones at Pierre Hermés are better, but I don't see how they possibly can be.
I had rose petal, lemon, salted caramel, chocolate, vanilla and pistachio. Yummmm! Shame they didn't have any berry-flavoured ones. Should have explored the shop a bit more - apparently it's beautiful, but I was distracted by the sweets.
I'm so happy. :) E brought some back from Paris for me (not Ladurée, but still mightily tasty), so it's been a bit of a macaroon fest this week.
Britain is in for a cold snap apparently. They are forecasting -11 degrees next week and snow. It'll be just like Germany.

Phew!
What a scorcher!... as they say. It's suddenly become summer after weeks of rain and damp and general non-hotness. Everyone is gasping for air like little stranded fish.
I notice on the new bendy buses, there are air-conditioners in the driver's cab but nowt for the paying passengers. Funny that.
Off to Taste of London today to sample much tasty food. After a sweaty session at the gym. I'm astounded by my goodness.
BB's birthday spaghetti and meatballs were an unmitigated success. After five hours of slaving over a hot stove I fashioned the most tasty, chunky and scrumptious meatballs with oregano and tomato sauce. Hats off to John Pawson's recipe (modified).
We watched Sideways the other day. It is very funny. Took a while to get into, but some excellent setpieces. It's made me want to go down the road and try out the new wine shop that has wine tastings down the road. And I don't really like wine that much.
Batman Begins next on the agenda.

Fed up...
...with horrible London weather. All grey and grim and causes the interminable journey from home to work to be even worse.
However, I'm all fed up in a nice way with a rather palatable chicken rice we made last night. Cooked the rice with some left over chicken juice from Tuesday's roast chicken leg dinner and steamed a couple of juicy free range breasts with tons of ginger, sesame oil, spring onions and salt. Blanched the beansprouts in steamed chicken water. Mixed up some steamed chicken water with light soya sauce and sesame oil and poured over steamed chicken and beansprouts. Added some cucumber slices. Spring onions in the remaining chicken water with white pepper for soup. And Bob's your uncle (or aunt as the case may be).
And the best thing is there's some left over for lunch today. Hurrah!
