I growled at someone in the showers at the gym today. It all came about because I saw someone take my towel from outside my cubicle through the glass door. I opened the door quickly to grab her before she made off with it, but she wasn't there so I growled in frustration, in a sort of cartoon fashion. Only thing is, she was still there... in the cubicle next to me. Fortunately, her face was in the towel, so I grabbed her towel which was on the other side of her cubicle, shut the door and skulked until she went away. Oops.

So little of interest has happened over the last few days that it has all blurred into one. Trying to arrange a weekend away in Sheffield so that we can see Assassins at the Crucible. However, there doesn't seem to be anywhere boutique-y, cool and contemporary to stay, unless we go to Nottingham or Leeds. I found one place - The Crown at Bawtry which looks pretty good - a converted 17th century coaching inn that's been made all stylishly modern. But then I found this.... Eeek! Everyone at work wants me to stay here so they can have a good story, but I'm not sure.

I'm quite taken by a restaurant with rooms that I've found near Nottingham called Sat Bains.. Definitely, more my kind of thing.

Anyway, once that's sorted out should all be fun. We can mooch around the Peak District for a bit and best tickets at the Crucible are only £17! What a difference from the West End, eh?

On Sunday, went to the gym to do a bit of rock wall climbing. My arms are now killing me. Fell off the wall at the end because I couldn't hold on any longer. Then yesterday the instructor made us do a gazillion sit-ups and so my stomach hurts.

This evening will be working for ex-boss on some presentation. Yesterday's team pizza lunch, what I organised, went very well. Some people scoffed more than their requisite two-thirds of a pizza though, as lots of people only seemed to have two bits. Had to feed sixty-five people though so, all in all, I estimated things pretty well. We were a sight carrying forty pizzas, fifteen salads, four boxes of dough balls and sundry dressings, toppings etc across the road. Made the whole office envious.

26 February 2006

There seems to be some sort of a Sondheim revival going on. Sunday in the Park with George is transferring to a proper theatre, Assassins is opening in Sheffield and Pacific Overtures at the Leicester Haymarket. Guess we'll be seeing a lot of the middle of England.

The Curse of the Were Rabbit was very funny. There were a lot more filmic references than there were in the other Wallace and Gromit movies. Gromit is very sweet but I don't know why he hangs around with Wallace.

My dance teacher at the gym is away on holiday and we all miss him. The replacement is some kind of a semi-jazz, semi-contemporary teacher but is trying to do street funk and his choreography is a tad naff. It's a good technique class though so shan't complain. Apparently, the teacher is in some programme called Pay Off Your Mortgage in Two Years and teaching is one of his making money schemes. Can't imagine it would do much to pay off his mortgage - not with what our gym pays. Anyway, the BBC may be coming to film next week's class. Not sure that that's a good thing.

Yesterday was blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and a side of bacon for brunch and leftover pad thai, chilli and salt pork choplettes and stir fried broccoli for dinner. And lots of grapes throughout.

London was heaving with tourists yesterday. I hate people. At the cash dispenser some blumming French tourists queuing behind me kept bumping into me and talking loudly. Do they not know that cash dispenser ettiquette demands that they stand a good distance away from the person at the till? Also, it's freezing, snowing and windy in London at the moment. Winter is our only respite from hordes of meandering, stupid, loitering about at all major pedestrian crossroads/through ways, pavement hogging tourists - so what are they all doing here in these Arctic conditions? Sheesh. Obviously London is not expensive enough, the public transport is not crappy enough, the service is not grudging and non-existent enough and the hotels are not rundown, grubby and overpriced enough.

9 October 2005

It's a beautiful day in East Dulwich. The sun has been shining magnificently and nothing but the sound of traffic and distant alarms/police car sirens to mar surburbia.

Ate 3 bowls of porridge for brunch. Going to the gym a lot really takes it out of you. Chores in the morning and then half-hearted attempt to tidy up the bedroom. But my forearms are very sore from climbing yesterday (it appears I have almost no upper body strength to speak of - at least I can't haul myself up a climbing wall for an hour solid) and am having problems gripping things today to have paused in the midst of tidying - that's my excuse anyway.

Back to boring work tomorrow. But at least have Porto to look forward to in two weeks time.

Ooh... nearly forgot. I bumped into Gordon Ramsay on the stairs of the gym yesterday. That's the first famous person I've met there. He smiled and gave me a nod.

I'm so easily swayed by celebrity.

8 October 2005

Went to Body Combat last night. This was the class that I nearly had to leave after 15 minutes, the first time I did it, due to general wanting-to-fall-down-dead-ness. The instructor, then, was a very small, whippet thin, ball of energy who would be bouncing all over the place and then go on to take some class called Boot Camp Circuits or something like that. She was French and ueber cool.

Now we have a new instructor. It was her 1st class at the gym and she was completely non-objectionable. Only thing is the way she spoke and moved was not entirely unlike a Blue Peter presenter. She asked for feedback afterwards but I thought that that was not the kind of feedback she was after so muttered something vague about "great class". But it was pretty boring.

Anyway, BB is off all weekend in some urban Airsoft thing in Leeds so I am gymming a lot today. Climbing at lunchtime and then dance class. Then I shall make a big pot of beef porridge with mui choi, fry up a big pile of ikan bilis and peanuts, slice up lots of ginger and spring onions and eat that all weekend.

My boss called someone a dickhead yesterday because he wanted to know why we were calling him back for the nth time for interview when the position he was up for had been filled already. I think we should phone him and tell him not to bother coming in, as she has clearly already taken a dislike to him.

5 October 2005

Hurray! New timetable at the gym and it's chocka of dance classes and the like. I shall write an e-mail of praise to the administrator, as they must be sick of the complaints/constructive criticism that I regularly send their way.

One of the new permanent classes is Tango which I have been wanting to learn for years but lacked the funds/get-up-and-go. Now it's on my doorstep, so to speak, I have no excuses.

Spent most of yesterday sorting out the boss' diary and running back and forth between the office and an offsite meeting delivering stuff that I don't think anyone really wanted to read but had to show willing. So no gym trip needed.

Comfort food for lunch - salt fish fried rice and egg sambal - and in the evening - cottage pie, carrots and broccoli.
