I won a tree! I had the best green/energy saving suggestions at work and they will plant a tree for me in London somewhere. I hope they plant it somewhere where I can visit it easily. I wonder if that lessens my ecological footprint any.
The other prize - the iPod Nano is for who gets the most questions right in the environmental quiz. They draw that tomorrow. I hope I win that too!

I had lots of suggestions:
-Save paper by setting all office printers to “duplex” so that text prints on both sides of the paper.
-Use energy-efficient insulation and windows.
-Use movement-sensitive sensor on lights so that lights automatically go off if nobody is in the room
-Make people constantly aware of the importance of saving energy and conserving supplies through posters, signage and intranet. Positive and constant reinforcement will improve employee awareness and engender pride in the company.
-Recycle, recycle, recycle. Paper, packaging, ink cartridges, mobile phones, PCs, paper cups, glass, organic material. All recyclable easily if everyone made aware and with appropriate receptacles that are easily accessible by all.
-It was Earth Day on Saturday 22nd April. Special dates like these can be used to raise employee and business awareness.
-Try to reduce flight travel. Flying really raises the ecological footprint of an individual. Make sure business travel is REALLY essential.
-Scan documents for filing, faxing etc. With scans and e-mail, - paper filing, faxing and mailing can be greatly reduced.
-Stop using window envelopes until someone invents one where the window is recyclable.
-Switch off monitors and other electrical equipment overnight or when away from desk for long periods of time
