I got two letters from the lawyers dealing with the car accident case that I'm involved in. One said, "We have not received your signed court statement and if you do not respond we will have to consider the case closed and drop procedures". The other said, "Thank you. We have received your signed court statement and will proceed with the case." I don't know which to believe.

I have very little faith in the lawyers though. Good thing I'm not paying for them.

Comments:
It has been my experience that the kinds of lawyers who deal with these small cases are universally incompetent and they have to set up their own practices because no employer would hire them.
They may be very good at the law (but, let's face it, if they were any good, wouldn't they be working for some big name lawfirm in the city?), but they are no good at admin, filing, communicating with their clients, being trustworthy, or displaying any basic human traits of civility, decency or reliability. These are people who couldn't organise a biscuit tin, much less one's complicated business affairs. Admittedly, this is all based on the lawyer who dealt with our flat purchase back in 1996 (may he burn in hell) but what are the chances that of all the good, competent lawyers in London, I would pick at random the only one who was crap? Much more likely, I think, that the vast majority of these small-time hoodlums in suits actually are crap.

Strangely enough, the lawyers who dealt with our last remortgage were so competent that I was worried that something must surely be wrong. They kept sending paperwork to fill in, letters telling us what was happening and it was so super quick that I was panicked they wouldn't get our paperwork in time. But they were based near Liverpool.
